Uintah sunset statement necklace -- wearable art. This amazing, ooak necklace was inspired by the incredible sunsets i see daily over the uintah rocky mountains. It is made from premium quality items: vermeil (thick layer of 24k or 22k over sterling silver, 14/20 ratio), and swarovski crystals. The adjustable chain, headpins and the tiny-tiny gold balls are 14/20 gf. All of the kiln-annealed, lampworked beads are made by extremely talented sra glass artists, who sell here on etsy and elsewhere. The focal bead is made by christiane imkamp from double helix and other brands of glass. It sports 24k gold leaf, raku designs, rare double helix cleo & aurora glasses, which are incredibly hard to work with due to their color-changing qualities during the actual bead making process.
Due to the special effects of double helix glass, the center of the focal bead is candy-apple red. In darker lighting (incandescent lighting at night, indoors), it looks a bit reddish/orange. If you hold the necklace up to the light, the edges look either dark peach/pink or pink with a blue tint or tinted purple, depending on how the light hits it. There are black & raku markings, with the gold leaf below in the glass. The glass has an iridescent nebula-like appearance inside the glass, which reflects mostly as light blue and lavender.
Raku is made with an assortment of colors all together in a single glass rod, and the colors used can vary by maker. The outcome is generally a purple/green/blue appearance or rainbow appearance, where 1 color fades into another (see the leaf-like markings at the top, right side of the pendant and the murini purple dot with lines).I have hoarded this incredible bead for more than a year, until i found the perfect beads and accents to match it. All of the bead dangles were hand-wrapped by me, and accented with vermeil bead-caps & accents. The necklace is strung on a 49 strand cable wire for strength and durability. Pendant length: 4 from the top to the bottom hanging crystal, and is 1 1/2 at its widest point. Please check out the matching earrings available in my shop.
A word about kiln annealed lampwork. Unlike cheap, mass produced, non-annealed beads, which break very easily, kiln-annealed beads are very durable. Although i wouldn't recommend this, i have dropped kiln-annealed lampwork beads on the cement floor in my work space, and they bounced no cracks, no chips, no flea bites--just perfect, intact beads. As the old adage goes, you get what you pay for.
